a weekend in hamburg (part 2)

last week i started telling you about our weekend we spent in hamburg visiting a friend. well, now a little bit about what we did on the second day, as well as pictures. sunday was filled with the typical “tourist” activities. we started the morning going to the fish markets, unfortunately for us, however, the market stalls were closed due to some special event they had going on, but walking through the outdoor stands was fun enough. afterwards we went for breakfast at this cute little buffet place before returning to our friends place for a little nap! (getting up at 6am on a sunday calls for a nap čśë )

in the afternoon we ventured over to the Speicherstadt, where all the warehouses are kept, and it is SO pretty! we were lucky with the weather, no rain and very little wind, which i think contributed to the beauty of the Speicherstadt. we took the pup with us on this outing and he loved walking around and exploring a bit, too! then we decided to visit a “beach” neighborhood of hamburg, blankenese. it is so picturesque! it is situated on hill which overlooks the waterfront and the houses are mainly whitewashed and gorgeous! we had a bit of cloud cover at this point, but it didn’t take away from the beauty of the neighborhood. it was strange though, that even though it is a “beach” town, it is on a river…so there is no salt in the air!

that evening we ventured over to the Sternschanze area of town for dinner and drinks. we went to a cute restaurant called Oma’s Apotheke and had some of the best schnitzel i’ve ever had! we then went over to Altes M├Ądchen for some drinks. it is a brewery in Sternschanze and the husband was in heaven! they also have a bakery, and we walked away with a few loaves of walnut bread čÖé
