a weekend in hamburg (part 1)

the first weekend in february we took a roadtrip up to hamburg. we decided to forgo the Karvenal celebrations taking place here in the Rheinland, and spend a weekend in hamburg instead. and oh my, was it worth it! its only a 4 hour drive from Bonn, so definitely manageable for a weekend getaway. the only thing is, it left me wanting to see more…so i guess that just means we will be going back!

we divided our “touristy” plans over the two full days we were there so as to leave some time for exploring and just wandering. we are lucky that one of the husband’s good friends lives there, so we were able to stay at her place, bring the pup, and have a local tour-guide (always helpful)! on the first day, we arrived around 1pm and then walked the pup quickly before jaunting into the city. we did a city tour seeing the Binnenalster, historic city center, and just meandering the city streets. we then made our way back to our friend’s apartment to get ready for dinner. she made reservations at a cute little italian place over near the St. Pauli part of Hamburg. we then ended up walking the Reeperbahn and Große Freiheit before calling it a night.
