about a month ago, we had some friends visiting from the states and decided to spend a long weekend in amsterdam. none of us had been before, so it definitely made for an enjoyable trip. the only hard part was that we were 3 couples coming together having never all met one another. other than that, the trip was so much fun, but we are definitely going to have to return…it wasn’t possible for us to cross everything off our list in 2 full and 2 partial days.
we stayed in an airbnb property, and that really took the stress out of a lot of things. we were all able to stay in one house, and hang out there when we were wanting to take a break from the city. as opposed to a hotel where each couple would have their separate room and we would have to make set plans the day before, it worked out really well for us!
the husband and i also decided to go with the “i amsterdam” card, which enabled us to travel on the trams and public transport for 48 hours, as well as free (sometimes reduced) entry into numerous museums. we didn’t take full advantage of the museum aspect, but maybe next time 😉 on the pass we got to see die nieuwe kerk amsterdam, oude kirk, museum ons’ lieve heer op solder (our lord in the attic), amsterdam diamond factories and museum, and the van gogh museum. there are a few more museums that i would like to visit, but we covered a good deal in our two days. we also went to the heineken experience, which is held in the former brew house of heineken. our first evening we wandered over to the “red light district,” definitely not for me…but i guess when you’re there, why not?!
anyhow…a few photos of our time after the jump!
